I took the long drive down to Green Bay today to get some pictures and samples of granite counter tops for our new kitchen. There is a store called the Granite Company that has a huge parking lot full of granite slabs. The aisles are wide enough for vehicles to go up and down, so you don’t even have to get out of your truck to see their selection.
First, I will show you the few samples I got. It was dark when we got home, so the picture has no natural sunlight to show the pretty speckles in the stone.
I couldn’t find one of the ones we had seen before that was brown and black. Sorry, dear husband. Seems they sold that one off. The store was really busy. I’m guessing there are a lot of people getting new counters with their tax returns. Here are pictures of the full slabs in the sunshine. So pretty! It’s difficult to choose!
I like this black one because some of the bits in it are iridescent bluish-green. Reminded me of peacock feathers. Black would match our appliances.
This one they couldn’t find a sample of. It has a lot of quartz-like striations in it that sparkle something fierce in the sun. The base is grey-white with varying degrees of grey throughout.
This is the middle of the samples above. It has the whitest base of all the granite we liked. Very good movement in this stone, and no funky colors – just greys and whites.
This was my husband’s favorite. It’s grey and tan with bits of rust scattered throughout. This is the sample furthest to the right.
This one is all grey. It is very much like the soap stone of our wood stove and the tiles of our hearth. It is the fourth sample in the top picture.
This was the other dark one. I have a hard time telling the two apart. One is a bit more greenish in the sunlight, but it’s hard to tell them apart under indoor lighting. This picture shows how sparkly it is. All that white is where the sun is reflecting off of the shiny bits – there are no white dots in the actual slab.
So that is what we have to choose from. Have any advice or ideas for us? Want to tell us which one is your favorite? Leave a comment below!
